How does raptr work

Having an independent platform to do this is no longer necessary. Rapt started in as a game tracking and achievements platform to connect gamers, somewhat akin to Xbox Live, but a lot has changed over the last 10 years, and as Fong alluded to, clearly Raptr has had a rough time evolving with the changing industry.

Rapt made a pivot to PC game optimization back in , and its membership grew to 22 million across countries. Then in , Raptr attempted to further diversify its overall business with a new app to record gameplay called Plays.

I really really like Raptr - and I've been using it for ages, long before the 1. I actually really like it - I know, I know, waahhhh xfire, I can hear it now. I'm purposefully glossing over it because frankly, I know more people using Raptr and more people who like the in-game tracking and stat publishing features that Raptr brings to the table than Xfire.

Additionally, since Raptr supports Xfire and Steam, you get all of them bundled up into a nice little package. For the longest time, I just used Raptr as a way to track and publish the games that I liked to play, build a game library, and let my friends see when I was playing a game in case they wanted to join me.

I use it in conjunction with Steam, not as a replacement to - and even today I don't use the IM client even though it's the feature everyone's talking about. Gamers need a place to use a handle instead of a name and emphasize gaming skills over baby pictures. Social network Raptr connects all your gamer friends in one place, stockpiles a ton of gaming data, and ranks you among the masses.

Raptr tracks your Xbox, Playstation, Steam and other various games installed on your hard drive. Raptr comes with a desktop-based dashboard packed with robust widget options that you can be activate while in a game, much like the Steam overlay. At launch the site includes support for thousands of games across platforms including the console systems, native PC games, and web-based Flash games. Conversely, Sony has yet to implement an accessible API, which means Raptr can only support select games.

Raptr is positioning itself as a central hub for these services to play nicely, which would make it immensely popular. EA apparently aquired Rupture for its technology — the site, which was originally developed as a social network for World of Warcraft players, never launched to the public.
